Copper Link and Sea Sediment Jasper - $52.00 - #216
To make this necklace, I cut copper wire in short lengths and then the ends were torched to create balls. These balls were then hammered flat and the links were scrolled into an S shape. I then took Sea Sediment Jasper beads and fine copper wire and wrapped them into the links, some containing 2 beads, some containing just one. These were then linked together with hand formed jump rings. The closure on this necklace is a simple hook closure that looks very similar to the rest of the necklace, giving it an illusion of a never ending chain. This necklace measures just shy of 20".
The patina of the copper is from the fire of the torch and being exposed to oxidation in the air and adds to the beauty of the piece. It will continue to mellow with age. If you would like more shine, it can be polished, but that may damage the beads if not done carefully. So, if you are looking for a bright copper shine, this may not be the necklace for you.
